I am doing a '61 Strat in Candy Apple Red. I have a Rosewood neck on order with Joe. I was going to leave it the standard Nitro headstock.

However, I have seen some from that era that had a matching headstock. And I think they look pretty cool. What do you guys think?

Pretty simply.

Natural or matching?

lets see some photos. Thanks as always...Dean

I gotta say I'm not a huge fan of candy apple red OR matching headstocks. But when they are put together with a rosewood board, it's one of my favorite looks around.

LOL, that is my next poll, but I am not into tort. I am thinking White, Green celluloid or Gold anodized...Dean

Parchment and natural!

GFS makes a really nice "dirty-white" pickguard - one of the few things I will order from them. It's a little darker than Fender parchment is all - I think the boys overseas didn't get the color quite right when they asked for parchment!

If that rosewood neck was bound with pearl dots I'd go with the matching headstock for maximum bling-blang!

It's going to be a '61 style so clay dots non bound. My 74 Strat has a 1965 guard on it. It is cracked at one of the screw holes and the tip is broke from shrinking. maybe I will get the right guard for the '74 and put the white '65 on there. I am thinking getting a Nitrate guard though. There is a lot of time for pickguards.

I am not a huge fan of matching headstocks as well, but with CAR it looks incredible. Anyway, so far it is neck and neck (LOL). We'll see. Thanks...Dean

Yeah I know. I was think of putting '65 guard on there, but the screw hole positions will give the year away. I can get a Nitrate guard for about $130 that has scuffs or scratches (B grade stock). i may go that route instead.

I have one can of CAR left that I can use for the headstock. I am a ways off from doing the neck anyway as it is being made and not in my possession yet. I will keep the poll up and see what happens. As off now it is a dead heat, I was hoping for a runaway...Dean
