I thought you guys might get a kick out of this. This is the very first guitar I ever built, which I couldn't have done without everyone's help here, thanks so much! I spent an inordinate amount of time reading, experimenting, and then reading some more until I had the confidence to order some parts and paint, and get going with my first project. I lurked for three years before joining by the way! I built this guy six years ago with the intention of distressing the finish and parts, but after all the time I spent trying to get things just right I couldn't bring myself to do it so almost all of the wear is just the result of playing. This is currently and has been my only guitar for some while, enjoy!

Shocked never had much love for Tele's, but wow - that mahogany just brings it alive. Pickgard gives it some nice character too.
Nice work no matter how long it took.

That IS my favorite Tele body. I have/had a 69 mahogany tele thinline with standard T-line appointments. It was the greatest tele I ever owned. The neck got trashed in Texas. I bought a new Fender neck. The body got trashed in Chicago...I built a new body. I think the harware is still all original, but I haven't pulled the pups since 1980 or so.

Thanks as always for the kind words everybody! And a funny little addendum to the story here, about a year and some change ago I found myself in a pretty tough spot and after a great deal of soul searching I decided that I was going to sell this guitar. There was an opportunity that presented itself, a girl wanted to buy the guitar for her boyfriend, and I knew I would get more money from the guitar in that deal than I would any other, plus I would just build myself something different anyway. Arrangements were made so that I would get half the money up front and the other half later, then they would get the guitar in return. So they stroked a check, the allotted time went by and I never heard from them. I sent emails and no response. I called and no response. This went on for months until I finally got in touch with the boyfriend of the girl who was going to buy the guitar as a gift for him and he says "yeah, we broke up a bit ago and I don't think she wants to give me a guitar anymore." I never heard from them again, and felt like I'd done my duty in trying to reach them so they never got a refund of the deposit. So basically the way it worked out was that this couple gave me some money to go through the stress of believing that I was selling a guitar that I didn't really want to sell, which in the end I would keep and value all the more for having gone through it!

By the way Joeglow, I'm in Williamsburg just south of the BQE on Manhattan. If you're ever in the area let me know and I'll give you a tour of the shop!
