|
|
So I found this lovely blog on this guy's homemade acoustic guitar build:
http://acousticguitarbuild.blogspot.com/
And then I found a retired luthier building an acoustic from 2000 popsicle sticks:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yR6BNjfZavw
And then all of a sudden, out of summer boredom, I got this crazy idea of building an acoustic guitar out of cardboard. I'm probably not the first, but I never saw it on the vast internets yet.
I started about 2 weeks ago with a lot of doubt, but now I'm halfway and it's looking pretty good. I'm not going to post a video with all the photos I have until I'm finished, but I'll show you guys the main ones. I really hope this will turn out successful O_o
Don't be deceived, that thing holds up pretty well. I'm hopefully working on it more today, and I'll post more pics later. _________________ Think again, what if I'm right? |

I like where this is going. |

That will depend if this works or not, haha
I have to find some nylon strings and I'm out of money =.= _________________ Think again, what if I'm right? |

haha, I bet it would sound boxy, but if this works out well, I might as well try to go all out with wood some other day (home depot wood )
For the neck, I'm using 3 dowels and gluing flat wood on top for the fretboard. You see the bigger dowel in the pic above. I wish I gone with a rectangular piece, but oh well, too late. I'll just go with what I have.
The fun part was making the sides of the body. Now I'm gonna have a pain working on the headstock tomorrow =.= _________________ Think again, what if I'm right? |

I did a lot of cutting and made the headstock and bridge. I got photos but it's past midnight already so I gotta go to bed. Was just chatting with my friend on Facebook and scared her with a creepy sketch of my friend's dream (he just happens to be an artist, and that sketch was kinda disturbing).
If I remember, I'll try posting pics before I leave to take the bus to the mall with my friends and sprint down to Guitar Center for nylon strings at noon (music shops are worth sprinting for )
The headstock is humongous, by the way, I hope it will work properly _________________ Think again, what if I'm right? |

ughhh, walked about 4 miles total today to the bus stop to get to the mall and Guitar Center with my buddies. Spent $8.99 on nylon strings... I hope it will be worth it.
Anyways, photos
Headstock is huge, like I said
Bridge and nut
Attaching the headstock
Gluing the dowels together to form the base of the neck
If I'm able to, I'll post more pics tonight. Otherwise, I'll see you guys after my long-awaited vacation :3 _________________ Think again, what if I'm right? |

There is a very famous cardboard classical guitar built in the 1800s. One of the members of the Official Luthiers forum made a clone of it and it turned out awesome and sounds great. I am pretty sure the neck, neck block and tail block were wood as were the braces. But the rest was all cardboard.

Can't sleep, so:
Cardboard (called corrugated paper in the industry) is a heavy wood-based type of paper, notable for its stiffness and durability. It was first invented in China some time in the 15th century, and is used for a wide variety of purposes. One of its more common uses is as a packaging material.
The first commercial cardboard box was produced in England in 1817
Corrugated (also called pleated) paper was patented in England in 1856, used as a liner for tall hats, but corrugated cardboard would not be patented and used as a shipping material until December 20, 1871.
