The Harris model P on the left was sporting EMG's, but is now sporting some Fralin's. The '51ri on the right had just the stock passive single coil.

As for the active vs. passive debate, well it's alot like Nitro vs. poly. Each has it's up's and down's. I prefer passive P's, and can cop almost any tone I need by varying the tone pot and my right hand position. But I did have a '62ri Jazz that had Dimarzio's and an Audere preamp that just smoked.

I am not a active fan at all. I think the sound is canned. I have had active pups before and hated them. I have Curt's in all of my basses right now and they sound so nice. And I too and pretty much dial in any tone I want with them and the amp.

Aw its cool, Wink

Are those active EMGs? [right P-bass]

A future project of mine is a bass, through-body 4-string but active controls and maybe transducer.

Since I'm not a bassist, and not looking for a "character" tone like guitarists (Strat sound like Strat, Tele sound like Tele ...) I heard active electronic is the way to go. But I don't know.
