Some of you may know visually stunning material finishes are kinda my thing, but I'm kinda in a classic guitar phase right now and am feeling the need to do something with a strat or tele, without using the material finish method I've done in the past. So I picked up this tele body...of course the wheels are turning as to what I could do with it.

Now I've wanted to do a halo Mary Kaye finish like cbaker's latest, and I think it would be interesting to do it on a tele. So that's one option. The other option which I'm leaning towards right now is to do a left handed replica of Prince's telecaster. I think that would be EXTREMELY cool. Cool Here's a pic so you know what I'm talkin about...I'm a Prince fan, and it always seems to strike people as odd...because despite the performance character oddities of Prince, he's extremely talented and can wail on a guitar, and I respect that and it makes me love him for some reason. Very Happy

And I'm not sure if this one is exactly the guitar, it looks more like somebody's replica, as the pickguard material doesn't look quite the same. But it's close.

I put this one up to show that dark purple-ish line down the center of the body. Now I know Prince's guitar has a flame top to it, and the body i got has just vertical grain, but I'm not too concerned with that.

But what do you guys think? MK or Prince replica?

That's a Hohner. Confused Anyway, here's a pic of the same model.

If you're doing a "tribute" and not a "mirror image" you could do tortoise binding and inlay a strip down the center. Just a thought.

Save the prince one for a flame top and do the mary kay on this one.

Jai, do you plan on binding this with the tort binding?
Man I love tort binding on the right color.
Although I don't reall care for the redness of that guard on the Hohner.
I like the browner more amber tort.

Is that a piece of tort under or around the bridge plate?

Doh! Just looked more carefully and see it's a hardtail bridge with strat pup. Embarassed

I'll have to check it out. I'm still looking for some really up close shots of this guitar. Especially the headstock I haven't gotten a good look at it. I'll prolly just end up doing a custom decal for it.

I'm with you, I like the darker color better, and as you can see on the guitar Prince is holding, it's more like a leopard print, really dark. I can't really see too close on some of the details yet, need to find more close up shots of it, but yes I plan to bind it and do that stripe down the middle with similar material as the pickguard I suppose....inlays and binding are new to me, this will be my first time doing them...I'm also curious about using Purpleheart for the stripe and binding...I'll look into the possibility of that.

Ya know what as much as I want to do this guitar you might be right Ryan...I just found a webpage with a bunch of info on the original Hohner "Te Prinz" guitar.

http://www.geocities.com/BourbonStreet/7192/g2.html

That tells me a lot of the info I didn't know or wasn't sure about as far as what materials go into this guitar. If I want to do a replica of this guitar justice, I think I need to do it with the proper materials.

I may be able to do a cool "tribute" guitar, a guitar inspired by this one that will allow me to be more original.

But idk, maybe i'll just do an oly white or butterscotch blonde without all the complicated details...or the MK halo finish....*shrug* Confused
