I just saw this in our little local paper-man, I wish I had heard of this before it happened:

From here: http://www.newrichmond-news.com/event/article/id/29914/

"A sizeable group of volunteers gathered in rural St. Croix County last weekend to construct and finish instruments in the first Guitars for Vets event in this area. George Vondriska, owner, chief instructor and creator of Wild Earth Woodworking School, offered his rural Hudson place for the Friday and Saturday sessions."

“The program started in Milwaukee in 2007,” he said. “Since then we have had sessions in Chicago, Madison and Tomah and this is the first one here.”
He said programs have also expanded to include Houston, St. Louis, Miami Fla., Chicago and Grand Rapids, Mich.
He said the G4V program got its start when a veteran and musician gave guitar lessons to another vet suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and noticed how the effect of the music helped him recover.
Today, Guitars for Vets offers six private lessons to any veteran. Upon graduation a new acoustic guitar is awarded to the individual. Continuing group lessons are also available to all participants.
Since its beginnings, G4V has provided more than 600 guitars and 4,000 private lessons to vets.
