I've got a pair of Ibanez dimarzio type pickups with the hex poles that I'm replacing and I was thinking about using them In my SG project.

Could I pot them In closed covers and If so would I keep the hex poles at the set heights or should I set them level with the bobbins.......thanks

If your not so much of a tone freak you could level them to the bobbins i guess but i don't know how much it will change your tone.

Or you could drill the holes out for the hex screws as a compromise that would look pretty bad ass .

I actually eamiled DiMarzio on something similar - I wanted to see if they could make a Humbucker From Hell (with hex poles) with a Nickel cover.

They said they will not do it because the hex poles under covers will cause feedback.

I've never tested this and have no clue if it's 1/100 or 1/2 chance that it will happen. I do trust that they know more about pickups than I do.

I'd drill holes - similar to a Rio Grande Crunchbox and rock your pickup that way...
