Do the pickguard. It just makes it look classy. The chrome looks too, trashy, likeit was just put on cause there was not enough money to do it right. Like it was an afterthought. The tortoise just looks right.

probably already been said, but go tortise, and cut it out so the control plate fits on aswell

You can always paint the pu covers. I've pretty good succes with the type of paint that is used for dying vinyl.

Ok, I took your two photos into Photoshop and made a mock-up with the tortoise shell material on the smaller jazz control (from my earlier suggestion) and...it looks like crap. Cheap and really, really wrong.

If I knew how to post the photo, I would. So I'd say your instincts were right on, Joeglow.

I think we're all in agreement that the Jazz plate will be just not do. Thank you all for your votes and opinions, I value them greatly. Sooo, back to the pickguard it is. Especially considering the pot location with the jazz plate.
